I got an email off someone recently that mentioned something called a ‘pling’. By ‘pling’ they meant an exclamation mark.
When did this start? I’ve always called the ! symbol an exclamation mark or point. Who decided to rename it?
The person who called it a pling said it was faster to say than ‘exclamation mark’. This is very true.
However, just because something is unwieldy and long-winded doesn’t mean you can come along and decide to change it unilaterally.
We must labour on with the unwieldy ‘exclamation mark’. We never got anywhere by changing things for the better willy-nilly!
